In honor of Labor Day, I’d like to share a birth! And happy Labor Day to all the mamas out there bringing new life into the world today (I personally know several!).
As a woman and as a photographer, birth is something I’m passionate about (OK, let’s be clear: I really only shoot things I’m passionate about). I’ve been on both sides of the camera for birth photography, and hiring a birth photographer was one of the best decisions McGee and I made. Now, maybe this makes me more than partially insane, but I get SO excited to be woken up in the still of the night by my phone playing “Baby Baby” by Amy Grant (shhh, don’t tell – that’s an embarrassing choice, no??!) signaling that a new life is ready to come into the world, and it’s my job to document it. A whole new person. And I get to be one of the first to meet them. It’s astounding.
Meet baby Wesley. xoxo
When I arrived, there was a lot of quiet pacing going on. Everything was still and quiet and serene (no really!!). Rebecca and Steven had done this 6 times before (YES SIX! They’re amazing!!), so they knew exactly what to expect and how to navigate the labor process together.
