Shooting a wedding is so much more than showing up on a wedding day and taking some pictures. To us, shooting a wedding means partnering with a unique couple to tell a story of their love that will become a precious heirloom for generations to come. Our heart is to help our brides and grooms not only prepare for the wedding day, but for every day after that by building a strong marriage before it even starts.
That’s why we love doing engagement sessions with our couples. We get to know each other, get to see how we react to each other with a camera between us, and spend plenty of time laughing and talking WITHOUT a camera between us. It helps us build a relationship with our couples so that when the wedding day rolls around, there’s no awkward “whatdoidowithmyhands” panic as soon as the camera comes out of the bag – just trust. Our couples know from experience that I’m not going to grab a shot of them that makes them look bad; that I’m not going to overly pose them, interrupt the flow of the their day, demand things from them. They can relax and enjoy their day without worrying about a list of must-have shots.
But I digress. The points I want to make here are:
a) Engagement sessions are IMPORTANT and FUN, and that’s why we include them in Every. Single. Wedding. we shoot.
b) Joel and Maryellyn are ideal clients – they’re in love and they’re focused on building a strong marriage; their relationships with family and friends are important to them; their wedding will take place in the woods (IN THE WOODS!! We love outdoor weddings!); photography is a priority to them.
We had a blast hanging out on the one PERFECT day in January on the North Shore. Enjoy.
