Guys, there are a million reasons I love my church (it’s where we’ve found our people – friends who celebrate with us in the good times and grieve and pray in the bad; we wouldn’t have survived the last few years without them), but one of the biggest reasons is our church’s commitment to being the hands and feet of Jesus. We don’t just get together and talk about Him on Sunday mornings; we don’t stand yelling on street corners. We love our community. It is said that St. Francis said “Preach the gospel at all times; when necessary, use words;” actions are always more effective. That’s why one of my favorite parts of the year is our spring Shine Prom that we throw for people in our community with special needs and their caregivers. I love seeing the untethered joy that fills the room. It hits me in a vulnerable place; I come away feeling like I’m the one that was given a gift.
From our website:
WHY WE ARE THROWING THIS BIG PARTY!
As people we have a strong tendency to be exclusive…to circle up with people like us and keep others at a distance. Jesus lived out and taught something very different. Jesus was incredibly inclusive. He came for the sick, the hurting, the broken and the marginalized. He was also very clear, that if you wanted to follow Him, you had to do the same thing. SHINE is an opportunity for us to demonstrate who Jesus is and what He is all about.
YES, THIS HAPPENED. I nearly fell over when suddenly on the dance floor, he fell to his knees and proposed. <3 <3
Guys, I can’t even with Party Jesus. I love this so much.
